Country Name: Italy

Ecclesiastic Region: Diocese di Bari-Bitonto
Font Location in Church: Inside the church, in the ante-room to the right of the nave
Century and Period: 12th - 13th century, Romanesque
Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to Anne & Thomas Heck for bringing this font to our attention, and for their photographs and information
Church Notes: The Duomo dates from the 12th century, and probably so does the font.
Large chalice shaped font in the Romanesque style. The basin has a legend around the upper border and a narrow band of forward-slash motif below it. The rest of the surface of the basin is covered in convex ribbing all the way down under the basin to the stem of the base. The latter is cylindrical and totally plain except for a round moulding at its base; it could be of later date than the basin. Large circular plinth. The low conical brass cover appears to be modern.
