Church Notes: intra muros church built in 1074;
Listed and illustrated in the Catalogo generale dei Beni Culturali [https://catalogo.beniculturali.it/detail/HistoricOrArtisticProperty/1600040300] [accessed 4 April 2025]: " CODICE DI CATALOGO NAZIONALE 1600040300 [...] fonte battesimale - ambito pugliese (fine/inizio secc. XI/ XII) [...] Fusto modanato. Vasca decorata a bassorilievo". Chalice font with strong Byzantine influence. The church itself dates from 1074 but the font is probably from the 12th century. The basin has a narrow rim under which there are four sculptures (L->R): 1)an eagle (?) with a book in its beak; 2)torso of Christ, with crossed halo, right hand raised in benediction, the left holding a book; 3)haloed male figure holding object with right hand, the left holding his chasuble (?) [he may be S. Adoeno, the patron saint of the church, though Cosmai (1989) suggests John the Evangelist; he appears to be wearing a deacon's chasuble]; 4)angel showing its wings and holding an object [a torch?] with both hands. The stem of the base is quadrangular and has brace-like mouldings on the sides as ornamentation.
