Noted in InfoVretagne [www.infobretagne.com/montreuil-le-gast.htm] [accessed 28 May 2017]: "Les fonts baptismaux datent du XVIème siècle." On-site notes: rectangular block of granite with two trimmed corners on one of the narrow sides; it has two basins carved inside: the larger one is square and the smaller one is the same shape as the trimmed side of the rectangle outside. Each of the corners of the outer rectangular basin has a figure, the head at the angle, bust and armas spreading outwards to the sides; one of the heads has three faces. The lower base has four animals carved on it: a lioness (identified as a "loup musele" by the abbé Brune [Paul Baneat's Le departement d'Ille-et-Vilaine (Rennes, 1928), p. 465], a dog, a lion and a dragon. It is unclear whether the date of 1534 given by Baneat as coming from the copper lining of the large basin would represent the original date of the font, though it is quite likely. The lead basin insert for the font is also listed in Palissy [ref.: IM35017945]: "plomb : fondu, gravé [...] 18e siècle (?) [...]
