On-site notes: oval shaped basin with a pair of round wells on the inside, of equal size, only one of which has a drain; the space between the wells, up and down has two rectangular cavities designed to hold the holy crism and other substances of the baptism ritual; the current font cover is a copper (?) half-dome with a cross finial, though there is evidence of hinges for an earlier lid on the rim surface; the pedestal base is made of the same dark bluish marble as the basin, and it is plain, other than for some horizontal mouldings. Modern font.
