Le patrimoine des communes d'Ille-et-Vilaine (2000) gives the origin of this font as the old parish church at Paramé; from there it was transferred circa 1860 to the old museum of Saint-Malo; the new base and cover were done in 1993 by Arcabas [Jean-Marie Pirot] and Étienne, the artists responsible for the main altar of this cathedral. [On-site notes: the modern reconstruction of this double-font uses green metal and modern design to fill in the missing parts with a striking effect. The original one-piece stone double-basin has large forward-facing figures around it, their hands and legs stretched and touching in some cases. The basins are chipped and broken in several parts, some of the heads missing or damaged. The stumps left under the basins indicate that the original base was made up of two separate octagonal columns].
