Vendelee / La Vendelée

Vivier-Seguin (1941) report that when they went to photograph this font they found it did not match Renault's usually reliable descriptions. The granite font they saw was octagonal with a torus at the bottom of the basin sides, thenm a chamfer ending in another narrower torus where it met the short octagonal pedestal base; a fairly large coat-of-arms ornament on one of the basin sides still with enough detail for V-S to identify it as the emblem for the local Du Hommel family had also not been noted in Renault's description. The other major discrepancy between the two sources is the dating: Renault dates it to between the 12th and the 14th centuries, whereas Vivier-Seguin date it to the second half of the 16th century and suggest that Renault got his notes mixed. They also note a pyramidal wooden cover with a ball finial.
