Vivier-Seguin (1941) report that this font was dated by the Monuments historiques to the 14th century, the basin and base being from different periods. The octagonal basin has an upper rim ornamented with tetrafoil motif, four such motifs on each side. The basin side has two registers: the upper register has monsters and/or fabulous animals, described by Le Sens as: dragons, a chimera, a harpy and a hairy man fighting two griffins; the lower register has Ogee arches with climbing curlicues on the sides. The octagonal base is narrower and, according to V-S, of a later date; it has pattern ornamentation and a band around its middle with an inscription [cf. inscription area]. V-S report that the restoration of the font in 1869 added a tall wooden lid adorned with flowery Ogee motifs and, as finial, a statuette of John the Baptist (Vivier, 1941). On-site inspection [June 18, 2000] revealed that the inside of the basin has been divided into two containers by a dividing wall, probably a later addition to make the font comply with the two-basin common in the area. There is a visible horizontal crack through the lower part of the basin; the explanation for the crack is given locally that the font fell when it was hidden during the Revolution behind the organ. The original paint (red, green and gold) remains.
