Church Notes: early-12thC church replaced and earlier Cluny priory; much modified 13th and 15thC -- listed church in Mérimée [ref.: PA00110564]: "
Vivier-Seguin (1941) report on this font: dated by Mon. hist. to the 12th cent.; however V-S see it as a hybrid with an early-Gothic octagonal basin whose sides are ornamented with a single Ogee arch containing a five-leaf palmette; the base is reconned as Renaissance by V-S and consists of a central pillar and four square detached colonnettes adorned with fluting. The whole rests on an octagonal platform (Vivier, 1941). The Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) simply gives the date of the font as 12th century. The baptismal font is listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50000949]: "Fonts baptismaux [...] Nef, angle nord-ouest [...] Calcaire : décor en bas-relief [...] La cuve est de forme octogonale [...] 14e siècle [...] Oeuvre anciennement datée du 12e siècle [...] H = 100 ; d = 80". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: APELR001459] and [ref.: AP50W02516]. The octagonal basin is much damaged and may actually be a fragment of the original; the outer colonnettes and the central shaft of the base are obviously not matched; the whole font is likely a composite object. Octagonal pyramidal wooden cover. The cover is listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50011836]: "Couvercle des fonts baptismaux [...] de forme pyramidale [...] Chêne [...] Garnitures en fer [...] L = 102 ; la = 77 [...] 18e siècle". A stone holy-water stoup in the south aisle is listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50007287]: "Bénitier cylindrique [...] Calcaire : taillé [...] 16e siècle ; 17e siècle [...] H = 44,5 ; d = 29". Another stoup, wall-mounted by the south entranceway of the nave is listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50007288]: "Bénitier mural à godrons [...] Calcaire : taillé [...] 18e siècle [...] H = 19 ; d = 33,5".
