Vivier-Seguin (1941) describe a font at the parish church in the town at Mont-Saint-Michel [not the Abbey church]: tall granite octagonal font, all in one piece, has a large Ogee arch on each face; the basin well is carved out of the upper part and not defined on the outside. Vivier-Seguin describe the whole as "harmonieusement proportioné". The Patrimoine de France site [http://www.patrimoine-de-france.org/oeuvres/richesses-13-4345-35241-P224535-81643.html] [accessed 12 September 2009] [Ref.: PM50000703] has assigned a 13th-century date to it. The font is of the monolitic type, with undefined basin and base volumes, octagonal with vertical sides decorated with a single trefoiled panel on each side; there is a thick moulding at the upper rim, and the lower base is defined and slightly wider. The inner well of the basin was originally round and plain, but it has been altered; the central drain is still there but there is now a cement half-cylinder that has been inserted; this insertion has three small round cavities meant to hold the oils, chrism, salt, etc. for the batism. The heavy lid is round and has two handles on the outside, the locking mechanism being located on the underside. [NB: the lower base appears modern; the cover is not original either]. The entry for this church in the French Wikipedia [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Église_Saint-Pierre_du_Mont-Saint-Michel] [accessed 26 March 2025] informs: "L'église a gardé ses fonts baptismaux du XIVe siècle qui ont été classés au titre des monuments historiques le 16 décembre 1907. La cuve de granit, monolithe, de forme polygonale, présente un décor sobre d'arcatures trilobées."
