Noted in Morris (1932): "Octagonal font, with concave sides -- probably Perp[endicular]. It is of the type of those at Cattarick, S. Kilvington, and Richmond, in the N. Riding, and of St. Mary's, Beverley, in the E." Mee (1941) notes "a 15th century font in a fine setting." Pevsner (1986 c1967) writes: "Font, of blue marble, octagonal, Perp[endicular]; concave sides with shields and lozenges." Chalice-shaped octagonal font in black marble (?) with heraldic ornamentation on the basin sides and lower base, of a type repeated in North Yorkshire [cf. Cognate fonts], probably all from the same workshop. [cf. Index entry for Ripon No. 3 for an earlier font in this church]
