Church Notes: 12thC abbey church, consecrated 1154, said to have been built on the site of an earlier Merovingian abbey; much modified since -- listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA50000030]: "Fondation d'un prieuré au 11e siècle. L'église romane dont le plan reprenait celui de l'église abbatiale de Cerisy, consacrée en 1154. A une date indéterminée, l'église est divisée en deux parties par un mur de refends. A l'est, le choeur, le transept et la dernière travée de la nef étaient réservés aux moines. L'ouest de la nef servait de paroisse pour la population. Au milieu du 15e siècle, après un incendie, la partie réservée aux moines est reconstruite en gothique flamboyant, sans modification du plan d'origine et des volumes romans. En 1767, l'insuffisance de moines entraîne le transfert de l'office paroissial dans l'église priorale et la destruction de la nef. Subsiste un édifice d'une travée, avec ses bas-côtés, un transept et un choeur terminé par une abside semi-circulaire. Au-dessus de la croisée s'élève un clocher carré couvert d'un toit en bâtière."

Reported in Vivier-Seguin as being just the basin of the old baptismal font, no longer in use; shaped like a truncated pyramid, it has an indentation framing each face; they compare it to the font at Geffosses and suggest that perhaps it had a 5-column base (Vivier, 1941). The object listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50006902] as a former 16th-century baptismal font re-purposed as a holy-water stoup does not seem to match that in Vivier [cf. supra]: "Bénitier, anciens fonts baptismaux (cuve baptismale) [...] Granite [...] 2e moitié 16e siècle [...] Les rainures à l'intérieur témoignent de l'ancienne existence d'un cloisonnement en feuilles de plomb, et non d'une cuvette de plomb."
