Illustrated in Lallov's (1934) as a transition font, "foreshadowing the Renaissance type"; it is a pedestal font with a round tapering basin which is decorated with a prominent lip moulding at the upper rim, and an arcade of crocketed and pinnacled arches containing holy figures inside the arches; the underbowl chamfer has graded mouldings, with two foliated (?) bands between the last ones; the pedestal base is a broad cylindrical pedestal decorated with a similar arcade to the one on the basin, also with holy figures inside the arches; there are four hieratic figures, detached from the central pedestal, their heads against the lower rim of the basin, feet resting on moulded pedestal that form part of the lower base; there are bands of foliage (?) also between the lower base mouldings, as above. This font is in part reminiscent of the Romanesque basin and figural base of the font at the Hildesheim Dom and, at the same time, not very different, except for the base figures, from the 17th century font also at Hildesheim. The font cover, unlike that of the Romanesque Hildesheim font, is flat and has a chalice-like finial (description based on ill. in Lallov, 1934). In Carlsson (1976: p. 68 and pl. 40). The font is now located in the west choir, though the original location is believed to have been between the west columns by the Marien-Portal. A description of the details of the font here is provided, together with a papar cut-out model of the font, with text by Petra Seegets and photographs by Thomas Pleiner and Thomas Bachmann, in [www.kartonmodell-forum.net/forum/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=65] [accessed 23 December 2014] [automatic translation by Google Translate]: The bowl is decorated lavishly with a total of 21 image fields: Shown are Christ as ruler and a crucifixion scene, as the Epistle to the Romans (6: 3ff) According to all the baptized are redeemed by Christ. These two representations of Christ are connected by arcades of Gothic tracery and show Apostle (z. B. Andreas with the X-shaped cross and St. Peter with the keys) and Saints (including Catherine of Alexandria with the wheel and Barbara with chalice and host). On the shaft there are 13 fields: Christ in the midst of the wise and foolish virgins with their oil lamps (Matthew 25: 1-13). The twelfth frame again shows the crucifixion of Jesus, while the left hand in the 13th Field barred door made it possible to control the temperature of the baptismal water in the boiler by hot coal from the bottom. By mapping the female saints on the shell and the wise virgins on the shaft relative to the font West choir, which was dedicated to the holy virgins of Christianity received. This took in the theology of the Middle Ages a preferred position in the sky. Have "The lamps so are the light of the luminous souls who get through the mystery of baptism Gloss: At the same time the wise virgins, please refer to baptism, as a quote from the ancient church teacher Hilary of Poitiers shows, who wrote in his commentary on the Gospel of Matthew ". Bertram Schulin's Taufbecken in Deutschland: Form und Ikonographie [https://archiv.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/artdok/6951/1/Schulin_Taufbecken_in_Deutschland_2021.pdf] [accessed 7 November 2022] identifies three German fonts that incorporate a heating system for the water: Marienkirche in Salzwedel, St. Sebald in Nürnberg and St. Jakobus Major in Cuxhaven.
