Information from J. Hoyas Gonzalez (1998): chalice-shaped granite font of the 16th cent.; round basin with broad ribs on the outside; over them, on one side, the episcopal coat of arms of the Carvajal family [Hoyas' identification]; the base is cylindrical without any ornamentation other than a broad ring rather low on it; the basin is lively painted, the ribs in ochre and white alternatively, the upper rim in a dark blue (?) and the Carvajal [bishop Gutierre de Vargas Carvajal [cf. infra]] shield in beautiful red, yellow, ochre, etc.; according to Hoyas, the font was moved between 1912 and 1940 to the Sacristia del Obispo (a dark half-hidden sacristy) and the current baptistery used as living quarters for the priest; the font is back in the baptistery. Noted and illustrated in Ismael Montero Fernández' Una villa episcopal. The font consists of a roughly hemispherical basin raised on a round pedestal base; the sides of the basin are decorated with a ribbed pattern; over the ribs, on the front (?) side, is the armprial device noted above; the sides of the basin are brighly painted, as noted above; the pedestal base has a moulding anout half the way down. No cover present.
