Listed by Enlart (1902) as a 14th century marble font mounted on a five-support base. Mentioned and illustrated in Lasteyrie (1926-1927), who describes it as "d'un bon style". Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as an octagonal baptismal font of the early 13th century "cantonée de quatre colonnes". The font appears square, similar to those at Ver, Nogent-l'Artaud and Chartres cathedral; in this font the corner columns are constructional, like those of the bases of the earlier Tournai fonts; the one at Chartres shows that the colonnettes of the corners are already becoming detached, a style which becomes wide-spread in France; a similar thing takes place in England where the Cornish fonts (Roche, Bodmin, etc.) show a stylised use of the corner columns. These corner columns later disappear totally from many of the fonts, though in some cases stylistic traces of their previous existence remain at the underbowl and the lower base of the now monopod fonts.
