There are three entries for Rearsby [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SK6514/rearsby/] [accessed 21 March 2025], one of which, in the 1086 tenancy of Countess Judith, reports a priest, but not a church in it. Upcott (1818) illustrates a font, which is either from 'Reresby' [i.e., Rearsby] or Rotherby. Listed by Enlart (1902) as a 12th century (?) square mounted font on a five-column base. Listed in Cox & Harvey (1907) as a noteworthy baptismal font of the Early English period. Noted in Pevsner (1984): "Font. C13, of an unusual type, with triple shafts, their capitals worn off. On the rim, shapes somewhat like weahtsheaves." The www.rearsby.net site [accessed 29 September 2007] informs: "The 13th century font is the most interesting part of the church. It has an unusual drum shape with four triple shafts attached. The ornamentation surrounding the rim has been damaged but it is believed to resemble wheatsheaves. The base is modern." The Charnwood Borough Council web site [http://www.charnwood.gov.uk/environment/rearsby.html] [accessed 29 September 2007] notes: "Font, C13, a rounded basin with 4 clusters of shafts supporting a carved but mutilated rim, and having carved capitals and bases standing free of the central round base." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SK6511114638] notes: "Font, C13, a rounded basin with 4 clusters of shafts supporting a carved but mutilated rim, and having carved capitals and bases standing free of the central round base."
