Scene Description: the east side of the basin has a combination of two palm-shaped leaves (?) in a V-shape arrangement, with a large rosette in the central spandrel, and two smaller rosettes on the sides -- The photograph was probably taken ca. 1900; the photographer, Philippe Feugère des Forts (1865-1940), studied at the Ecole des Chartes where it graduated as 'archiviste paléographe'; Des Forts was a contemporary of Brutails, Enlart and Pontalis, and a member of the Société des Antiquaires and of the Société d'Emulation d'Abbeville.

Noted by Enlart (1902) as a 12th-century square mounted font on a five-column base. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM60001502]: "Les fonts [calcaire] se composent d'un support octogonal cantonné de quatre colonnettes couronnées de chapiteaux à crochets et reposant sur une base carrée. Cet ensemble fait corps avec la cuve des fonts, elle aussi octogonale [...] Le décor des chapiteaux à crochets se prolonge en bandeau sur le sommet de la cuve. Ce bandeau s'orne de feuilles polylobées, de volutes et de petites roses ou encore d'un oiseau dans des branchages (peut-être de la vigne ?) ; Une tête humaine vient aussi prendre place dans un angle [...] mauvais état [...] Ragréages effectués en plâtre. Vestiges de polychromie. Algues vertes. Eclats de pierre. Une face bûchée [...] Le couvercle et les ferrures sont d'origine et datent de la 2e moitié du 12e siècle tout comme les fonts baptismaux." The east and west sides of the font were probably trimmed vertically in the past; the two sides have therefore lost whatever carving they had on those sides; the sides were heavily painted over; the likely explanation for this treatment is that the font needed to be fitted into a tight area, something that has happen often to baptismal fonts though the centuries.
