Font Notes:
Enlart (1902) lists it in a group of "fonts en forme de navette" and dates it to the 12th-13th century. This type of oval font is relatively common in the area, from simple un-adorned types such as the one at St-Loup-de-Naud, to the one at Provins with its complex figural ornamentation program. This one is described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes des Yvelines (2000) as being ornamented with a band of rosettes right at the upper rim side while the rest is plain except for a few vertical and horizontal mouldings. The base is almost as wide as the basin at the foot but narrower in the middle. The same source describes a zinc inset with two compartments and dates the font much later than Enlart, to the 16th century. Lasteyrie (1926-1927) admired its "excellentes proportions" and dated it "des environs de l'an 12000". [NB: if nothing else the difficulty in dating this type of font is a testimony to the continuity of its design]. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM78000786]: "Fonts baptismaux [...] Calcaire [...] 13e siècle [...] Ornementation végétale [...] H = 100 ; l = 110 ; la = 78". Illustrated in Mérimée [ref.: AP05L00243, AP78W01718, AP78W01719, AP78W01720].
