Noted in Fichot (1884) [cf. infra]. Listed by Enlart (1902) as a Renaissance octagonal font. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM10001754]: Fonts baptismaux [...] calcaire [...] Avec cuve en cuivre. Décor gravé. [...] Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: OA010031012125, AP10W01158, AP10W00108]. The font consists of a basin that is octagonal inside and out; it has a moulding at the upper rim with a shallow arcaded pattern below it; the sides and underbowl are plain; there is considerable damage at opposite ends of the upper rim where the metal staples of an earlier cover split the stone; stands on a square pedestal base with wide chamfered corners, practically octagonal; the sides are decorated with floral motifs in lozenge frames; the bottom of the chamferred corners have large scroll leaf decoration. The metal container mentioned in Palissy [cf. supra] is quadrangular, with a tap on one side; it appears to be a water reservoir; it is decsribed in Les Amis du Patrimoine de la Vallée de la Vanne [https://patrimoine-vanne.info/rigny-le-ferron/eglise.html] [accessed 25 November 2023]: "La cuve baptismale, xvi* siècle, malheureusement abimée ; renferme une cuve de cuivre rouge, ornée de fleurs de lys." One of the photographs in Mémoire [cf. ImagesArea] shows a flat wooden octagonal cover on the font.
