Church Notes: 14th-15thC church -- listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00080636] -- NB: Some sources refer to a church dedicated to the Annunciation in Les Vigneaux, while others refer to a church dedicated to St. Lawrence; we have not been able to locate two parich churches in this village; the explanation appears to be that the only parish church here has been at times referred to as "L'Annonciation" [cf. entry in Pappers politique [https://politique.pappers.fr/commune/document/6d9c86e8c7bd6573e7871e8c46e7defc1304ff8d?tab=citations&search_full=true] [accessed 8 March 2025]: "Eglise paroissiale Saint Laurent dite de lAnnonciation IPH2XD 19130904 - Thèmes : Religion et laïcité, Aménagement du territoire, Histoire et mémoire, Document publié le 19 juillet 2024 par la commune de Vigneaux."
Font Notes:
Listed by Enlart (1902) as a 14th century font with a round basin [NB: Enlart has "Les Vignaux"]. Baptismal font listed in Palissy [ref.: PM05000361], which gives the church as "Les Vigneaux ; église paroissiale de l'Annonciation": "Fonts baptismaux [...] Cuve : pierre sculptée ; couvercle : bois sculpté [...] Cuve du 15e siècle ; couvercle du 19e siècle [...] Cuve : tresse, fleurs, arcades [...] H = 87 ; d = 95". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: AP05W00921, APMH00029780]. The entry for this church in the Pays des Écrins web site [https://www.paysdesecrins.com/decouvrir/incontournables-dans-le-massif-des-ecrins/musees-et-patrimoines/eglises-et-chapelles] [accessed 8 March 2025] notes the location of the baptismal font inside the church: "Les fonts baptismaux se trouvent au fond de l'église." A recent [2012] photograph of the exterior of this church shows what appears to be a stone baptismal font in the south porch of the church, a roughly hemispherical basin on a quadrangular base, both totally plain; we have no confirmation but it could perhaps be the font of the original medieval church here or one brought from a nearby location [cf. ImagesArea]
