Listed by Enlart (1902) as a 11th-12th century Tournai-like square font mounted on a single-column base [Enlart puts Rieux in Aisne, but there is no place of that name in that dept.]. The Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) describes this font as having a massive octagonal support and being ornamented with a double torus and beaded-tape curlicues surrounding a human head or a rosette [sic]; the Dictionnaire dates the font to the 12th century. [...] Badigeon gris. Cuve cimentée. Ancienne consolidation avec une barre de métal." The top of the basin could be described as square with chamfered angles, since the angle sides are about a quarter of the length of the other ones; the inner well is not round but irregular, almost quatrefoiled; beneath the double-moulded top is an underbowl decorated with large plant scrolls at the angles with a human head, a rosette, and a floral motif between them [NB: we only have had access to three of the sides]; a roll moulding below; the stem is octagonal, all sides approximately the same width, and plain; the lower base is also octagonal has a roll moulding all around; it appears very short. The wooden cover, octagonal, flat and plain, is modern.
