This font is listed by Enlart (1902) among a group of 13th century footless tub-shaped fonts (octagonal) ornamented with a blind arcade. Corblet (1881-1882) describes it as an octagonal font "de l'époque ogivale, richement sculptés, mais malhereusement mutilés en divers points"; he also gives details of the baptismal scene on the font: the officiating minister of the sacrament, who is depicted with a sheep skin over his garments, holds a child over the font; there is a dove right above and a mysterious hand (the Hand of God) which parts the veil of clouds "pour bénir le chrétien régénéré". Lasteyrie (1926-1927) describes the font as octagonal, although the base is a replacement; he also mentions the ornamenting arcade, some of whose arches have figures related to the scene of the Baptism of Christ. Listed and illustrated in the Palissy database [référence PM02001029] with illustration [NUMP MH0028126] by Enlart; 13th-century date [NB: of the two illustrations available at this point each shows a different base; we are unable to determine at this moment which is the one originally belonging to the font, though the carved one is possibly it]
