Enlart (1902) groups this font with other 11th-century "cuves circulaires sans pied" and describes the ornamentation as a baptismal procession with accompanying knights. Vivier-Seguin (1941) have a similar description of the scenes around the basin and propose that if the bottom of the basin of the actual font could be studied properly, it might turn out to have had a columnar base such as is depicted on the scenes. The present base appears to be of a later date. Described in Les siècles romans en Basse-Normandie (1985: 133 nos. 375, 376, 377), where the decoration is described as "énigmatique" but it is suggested that it may represent a procession. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50000258] as a baptismal fiont of the 12th century made of limestone: "Les fonts sont en pierre calcaire, tandis que leur couvercle est en bois. La cuve est circulaire. Une procession de 14 personnages dessinés au trait circule dessus. [...] Inscription : lettre H (sur l'étendart avec la croix de saint André tenu par l'un des cavaliers)." [NB: the 'H' inscription referred to in Palissy is probably the tasseled fringe that adorns the flag]. On-site notes [17 June 2000]: due to the height of the font, 82 cm without plinth, it is very unlikely that it would have had any other base than a simple and short one to keep it in the normal height range of these early fonts; the font shows clear signs of reconstruction on the upper rim; the discoloration present in the lower part of the basin may well be due to its being partially buried and the consequent damage caused by humidity. The medieval font is reported restored in a 25 September 2018 article in Ouest-France [www.ouest-france.fr/normandie/quettreville-sur-sienne-50660/les-fonts-baptismaux-du-xe-et-xie-siecles-renoves-5984620] [accessed 29 January 2021] where the incised decoration on its sides is described as "quatorze personnages, quatre cavaliers marchent en tète d’une procession religieuse [...] Les travaux de rénovation de ces fonts baptismaux ont duré plus de deux ans et se sont achevés cet été. La pierre a retrouvé sa couleur d’origine, les sculptures ont été remises en valeur le couvercle qui protège ces fonts est tout neuf. Cette pièce rare pour l’époque donne à cette église du XIe siècle un cachet particulier et remarquable."
