Font Notes:
Jansen's catalogue of 1964 shows an octagonal basin mounted on a pedestal base, the upper part of which s cylindrical but the lower octagonal; the upper part of the basin is adorned with a double scotia under which there is a band of vegetal ornamentation [Jansen identifies also bunches of grapes] and two human faces; the old metal loop to secure the lid is still in place; the base has a scotia around its middle but is otherwise unadorned. Jansen's catalogue states that the font was acquired from the church at Waarbeke in 1848 (Musees Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Brussels, 1964). A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 19 May 2022) suggested cognate fonts at Smeerebbe-Vloerzegem, Opbrakel, Sint-Maria-Oudenhove and Nieuwenhove, in the same area. The present font in the church is modern [cf. ImagesArea].
