Described and illustrated in Lefèbvre-Pontalis (1885) as similar to the font at Urcel, both with date in the mid-12th century: "La cuve baptismale de Laffaux offre une analogie frappante avec celle d'Urcel elle est formée d'une vasque qui repose sur une grosse colonne et sur quatre colonnettes disposées à chacun des angles du socle. Un entrelac, semblable aux anneaux d'une chaîne, orne les rebords de la cuve, et les cinq fûts sont décorés de chapiteaux à feuillages délicats. Leurs bases dont le tore inférieur est légèrement aplati, sont rehaussées par des griffes, et le soubassement fait corps avec la colonne centrale, comme à Urcel. Cette euve mérite d'attirer l'attention des archéologues par l'élégance de sa forme et la pureté de son style elle doit être considérée comme un peu moins ancienne que celle d'Urcel, a cause du profil de la base des colonnes, et nous croyons qu'elle a dû être sculptée vers l'année 1160 environ." Cloquet (1895), who cites Lefèbvre-Pontalis in Bulletin monumental (1885, p. 597), as source, states that even though this font may be in the "forme générique tournaisienne", it differs from the general pattern and, Cloquet claims, it is without a doubt of local manufacture. [NB: a later font of the 16th century from this church was destroyed in WWI].
