Described and illustrated in Drake (2002): "At Son the side which portrays a dog in pursuit of a rabbit has a disc containing an eight-leaf motif at top right, above the hindquarters of the dog." Drake (ibid.) lists in the group of square Mosan fonts. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM08000539]: "Fonts baptismaux en pierre gris bleu. Sur le dessus de la cuve, qui est ronde [cf. infra], les écoinçons sont ornés de gros fleurons ressemblant à des fleurs de lys, comme les cuves baptismales de Chaumont et de la Val Roy [...] 12e siècle". Described and illustrated in Jean-Luc Collignon [http://jeanluccollignon.blog4ever.net/ainsi-font-les-fonts-de-son] [accessed 12 June 2016]. The font consists of a square table-top basin decorated with an acanthus vine in roundels bearing fruit on two sides. a third has an blind arcade of five round arches on columns with capitals and bases, and the fourth side shows two quadrupeds, a larger one, probably a dog, chasing a smallr one with large ears, rabbit or hare; there is an encircled rosette [cf. supra] to the right of the dog's hind quarters; the basin is raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base, and a round-to-square lower base decorated with a broad moulding that has a lanceolated leaf at each angle. There is considerable damage to the upper surface of the basin where the two metal staples of the old cover were; the top surface of the basin is much eroded and the decoration in the spandrels is not easily discernible now.
