Listed by Enlart (1902) as a double-font, octagonal, of Gothic style; Enlart mentions "le chef de saint Jean-Baptiste" as appearing on this font. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM29001014]: "fonts baptismaux [...] 15e siècle". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: AP52P01251, AP29W05558, AP29W04317]. Jean-Yves Cordier 's blog [https://www.lavieb-aile.com/2022/11/les-fonts-baptismaux-de-saint-jean-du-doigt.html] [accessed 23 March 2024] notes: "Ces fonts de Saint-Jean-du-Doigt appartiennent, par leurs mascarons et leur décor végétal, à un groupe stylistique (ou plutôt thématique), avec sept autres fonts, tous de la région de Morlaix, groupe étudié par Emmanuelle Le Seach, (autrice d'une thèse sur la sculpture sur pierre en Basse-Bretagne), dans un article de 2004. Elle a choisi comme prototype de cette série ceux de Plougasnou où les motifs floraux sont omniprésents. Les huit fonts diffèrent par le nombre des masques : ceux de Plougasnou ont 11 masques dont 5 sur la piscine et 6 sur le bras de vidange, ceux de Saint-Jean-du-Doigt 28 masques dont 20 sur la piscine, ceux de Plourin-Lès-Morlaix, de Plouezoc'h , de Plouégat-Guérand et de Plougonven 7, ceux de Guimaëc 3 et ceux de Morlaix-Ploujean un seul. Ceux de Plougasnou portaient selon Abgrall une inscription A MA VIE. A MA VIE. J. ALBI FECIT ISTVM, mais le nom J. Albus, transcription possible d'un Jean Le Guen, qui peut indiquer le nom du sculpteur avec la formule x... fecit, "m'a fait", pourrait aussi être le patronyme du commanditaire ou fabricien (mais on aurait alors la précision F. ou FAB) [...] fonts baptismaux (granite, vers 1500) de l'église de Saint-Jean-du-Doigt [...] Dans la chapelle sud-ouest de l'église, ces fonts baptismaux à double cuve octogonale en granite se remarquent par les mascarons de ses faces. La cuve principale (celle qui conserve toute l'année l'eau bénite dans un récipient en plomb, absent) est ornée d'une frise sur sa marge supérieure alternant des masques, aux angles des pans, et des rinceaux ou d'autres masques. La "piscine" ou cuve dans laquelle est versée l'eau servant à baptiser l'enfant, centrée sur un trou de vidange, est seulement entourée d'une moulure. Mais les deux cuves sont entourées, en partie basse inclinée vers les colonnes prismatiques qui les supportent, d'une série de masques grimaçants. Pour les voir, il faut se baisser mais cet effort est récompensé par un spectacle saisissant. Faut-il voir là une opposition entre le monde des enfers, ou des limbes, et le monde supérieur des baptisés, rachetés du péché ? La réalité est plus complexe puisque la frise supérieure n'est pas dépourvue de personnages hideux et difformes." This same source quotes E. Sur le front de la plus grande court une frise de grappes de raisin, de feuillages, de personnages : d'un côté des masques grimaçants représentant le péché ; à l'opposé un évêque et deux anges tenant un plateau sur lequel repose la tête de Saint-Jean."
