Font Notes:
Alfred Chevallier's article 'Notes sur quelques fonts baptismaux des Ardennes', in the Revue historique ardennaise, Volum 8 (1901: 303-305) includes the baptismal font at Vendresse: "A Vendresse, canton d Omont, la cuve est demi-sphérique et ornée de quatre figures humaines. Le socle, octogone à sa partie supérieure, est carré à sa partie inférieure" -- A plate in the same source illustrates a number of them, including that of Vendresse among them. According to Collin (1981}, the font at Vendresse is one of the worthy "Ardennes" fonts, Tournai-like, and made of the type of marble which polishes to a black shine. Inventoried in Palissy [ref.: PM08000578] with date in the 12th century; this source indicates that one of the four protruding heads sticks its tongue out. The font consists of a hemispherical basin decorated with heads protruding at 90-degree angles of the upper sides; raised on a octagonal-to-square pedestal base of later date. The wooden cover is circular, flat and plain, hinged along the middle.
