Church Notes: See notes about an earlier metal font at this church melted in 1691 to make a bell.
The present font is noted and illustrated in Steenberg (1945-1972), a Baroque marble piece donated by Elisabeth Helene von Vieregg in 1700 to the Vor Frelser church; the basin is cylindrical and has, under the upper rim, four scenes: 1)a lamb (Christ?) and a palm tree, 2)the baptism of Christ, 3)Christ meets Cleopas and Peter on the road to Emmaus and 4)dinner at Emmaus. The base has a central pedestal and four "putti" holding objects (tables of the Ten Commandments, snake, apple, etc.). Over the font is a tall Baroque font cover overloaded with angels and all kinds of ornamentation. The baptistery area is demarcated by a wooden enclosure ("Fontelukkelse") also full of "putti" and other Baroque ornamentation (description based on ill. in Steenberg, 1945-1972). The same source mentions another font which existed in this same church, dated to the early 17th century (?) and made of bronze, which was melted into a bell in 1691 (Steenberg, 1945-1972, v.2, p. 480)
