Font Notes:
Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM50000120]: "Fonts baptismaux [...] Calcaire : taillé [...] 12e siècle [...] H = 97,5 ; la = 86 ; pr = 90 [...] La cuve repose sur quatre colonnettes à chapiteau [...] Nef, angle sud-ouest". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: AP50W00061]. Defined by Vivier-Seguin (1941) as a coherent and elegant font. Malle includes an ill. of the square Romanesque basin mounted on four slender columns at the corners (Thiebot points out that they are a replacement of the original ones), (Vivier-Seguin report that the central column was lost but they add it in their drawing); all four authors date it to the 12th century; the remaining four columns of the base have simple bases and astragals; the basin is slightly trapezoidal, the lower part narrower than the upper; the two visible sides show a band of wavey floral motif at the upper rim; under it each side is divided in three parts: the left side has two 6-petalled rosettes, one above the other; the right side has several large palm leaves with rosettes similar to the ones on the other side at the bottom (4). The font has an almost flat wooden cover which appears moddern (Malle, 1994); also Thiebot (1988). Described in Les siècles romans en Basse-Normandie (1985: p. 133) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period ornamented with floral motifs. Described and illustrated in the Wikimanche entry for this church [https://www.wikimanche.fr/] [accessed 27 Febryary 2025]: "Les fonts baptismaux du XIIe siècle, dont la cuve est décorée de motifs végétaux, sont classés monument historique au titre d'objet en 1923"
