A description of this font is included in a letter to the editor of The Gentleman's Magazine (issue of January 1821: 9): "Within the gallery stands an octagonal font of stone, adorned with four lions sedant, and as many blank escocheons, with a modern top or cover of wood". Parker (1855) mentions the emblems of the Evangelists on the basin of this font. Described in Knott (1999): "a fine one; typically East Anglian [therefore octagonal and well ornamented], with cheerful lions and angels supporting the bowl, and on its panels."
