Bond (1908: 71, 72) describes this as a "fontlet" which may in reality be a mortar; he refers to these objects as too heavy to be "hand fonts" (i.e., portable fonts) and argues that many show wear from the pestles and have been simply mistaken for stoups in the past. This "fontlet" is made of one block of stone, the basin appears as framed within a square structure. Drake (2002) groups this font in a catch-all grouping of "Small Clusters and Unique Fonts", together with the font at Little Torrington and a few other 'odds and ends'. On-site notes: one of two small hollowed containers being used now [July 2000] as holy-water stoups; they both look like mortars or medieval grain measures.
