According to Couto (1998: 54), the Romanesque baptismal font in the present parish church at Sapiaõs was brought in from the old chapel in the cemetery. The font itself is chalice-shaped, of whitish stone; the hemispherical basin has shallow ribs set in a helicoidal manner; the base is a short round pedestal striated to match the ribs of the basin. The wooden cover is of a later date, as probably is the lower base or plinth of the font. [NB: the same source illustrates a large hemispherical basin used as fountain in the "Parque das Merendas" [snack park], near Regueiral; this basin corresponds to the larger size fonts found across the border in Spain, although it may very well be just that, a fountain without any relation to a baptismal font]
