Baptismal font of the table-top type noted, with an engraving by J. Basire, in Gough (1792). Tymms (1834) reports it as "very large". Moule (1837) describes it as "evidently constructed to be used for total immersion". The Ecclesiastical and Architectural Topography of England: Oxfordshire (1850) notes: "The font is very large and lined with lead; it has a square top supported on a centre thick shaft, and four thinner ones around it." In Old England (1845). In Parker's Glossary (1850). In Murray (1882). Bond (1908) cites this font in his index but the reference is blind. Ruprich-Robert (1884-1889) shows a drawing of a square font mounted on a central cylindrical base and four detached corner columns; these columns are not symmetrical: some are decorated with torsade motif, others with just horizontal mouldings; the lower base/plinth is square and made of two steps: the inner shaft rests on the upper step, whereas the outer colonnettes rest on the second step. Noted in Kelly's Oxford Directory of 1911: "the font, a very early and curious example of black marble, is about 3 feet 6 inches square, supported on a short circular stone pedestal with four smaller ones at the angles, three of which are twisted; the whole rests on a square base". Listed in Tyrrell-Green (1928) as a square basin mounted on a central column and four outer colonnettes; of the Norman period. The Victoria County History (Oxford, vol. 5, 1957), with sources from the Osenay Cartulary (vi, 135), notes: "Iffley obtained its own church in the late 12th century [...] The church was probably built about 1175–82 by Robert de St. Remy, who created a new parish out of his manor. Before that the village had apparently been served by Cowley church [...] Most of the original building remains [...] The font, which is probably late 12th century, is nearly square with a round hollow, set on a round stem, with four shafts; of which three are original, and one 13th century." A locally-printed guide [ca. 1970?] notes "It is supported by three 12th century spiral columns and one of the 13th century, possibly from an old window in the Rectory." Hutton (1976) dates it 12th-century. Noted in Sherwood & Pevsner (1974) with late 12yh-century date, but "one plain shaft is C13."
