Font Notes:
Described in Ruiz Montejo (1992): a baptismal font of very crude execution has raised the question of whether this is a true Romanesque font or one done by a local stone-mason following the style of other such fonts. The basin has a crude blind arcade of Mozarabic arches; round upper rim; the short pedestal base is octagonal with alternating concave and convex motifs. The upper rim of the rim has been broken [probably by the removal of old cover ironware], and repaired. A flat plain wooden lid appears modern. In Garma Ramírez (2000). Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla-La Mancha: Guadalajara (2009) as a Romanesque baptismal font of a type common in this region, with other examples at nearby Henche and Las Inviernas, and other regional specimens at Anguita and Villaseca de Henares. The decoration on the basin consists of a moulding at the upper rim, with round –almost horseshoe-shaped- arch-heads below framing the tops of broad ribs all around; there is damage to the upper rim, and two metal staples from the old cover are still in their position there; the squat round-to-square base is of much later date, probably the 16th century.
