Noted and illustrated in Mithoff (1871-1880). Listed in Ligtenberg (1915). Classed in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font of the "Bentheim School, Berge b. Type II", a group of fonts that includes those at Alfhausen, Badbergen, Bippen, Borken, Heek, Lathen, Nordherringen, Salzbergen, Schapen, Schepsdorf, Südkirchen, Utrecht (Katharinenkonvent), Weerselo, Wettringen and Wissel. The baptismal font consists of a round slightly tapering basin decorated (top-down) with a double rope moulding, a stylised vine with palmettes and fruit bunches, and an arcade of irregular round arches, some almost (?) horseshoe-shaped, on short unadorned columns; there are a number of carved items inside some of the arches: human heads, floral motifs, etc.; some seem to have incised motifs that may have been a later addition; raised on the characteristic round-to-square base, with a roll moulding atop, then four couchant-regardant lions at 90-degree angles of the broad central shaft. There is a flat wooden font cover that is ill-suited to the font, being octagonal with two opening wings hinged in the middle.
