The baptistery at Aix-en-Provence is an octagonal building with an ambulatory, covered with a 12th century Romanesque vault which is supported by eight columns with Corinthian capitals, probably reused from older buildings The baptistery has a 16th cent. cuppola and the octagonal "cuve baptismale" itself is right at the centre (this "cuve" is dated by Enlart (1902) to the 14th century, and by Corblet (1881-1882) to the 13th or 14th century. The baptistery is believed to be originally from the 5th century, though it has had many later modifications (description from Narcisse, 1979, p. 24). "Example remarquable" (Chastel, 1966, p. 287). As in Frejus, there is a tub-shaped font or well under one of the arches of the baptistery.
