Church Notes: The Monasterio de Santo Toribio de Lieban had been named "San Martin de Turieno" [Martinus Turonensis = Martin of Tours] until the relics of the Gallegan St. Toribio were moved to Liebana and the cult of the latter increased greatly; by the 12th century the monastery was already known by the new name of Monasterio de Santo Toribio. A plain hemispherical basin that appears to be made of course granite rests on a thick circular pedestal; the lower base has a square plinth with a round underbase below it. The font is apparently one of the few objects that survive from the old church of Santa María and is said to date from the 16th or 17th century.
