Described in Catalunya Romànica (1984- , vol. IV: 146) as an 'oil font' ["pica d'oli], a rectangular font carved from stone and used to store the tythes oil for the illumination of the church in early times. The cognate ones in the Vall d'Aran (Cap d'Aran, Vielha, Unja, etc.) and nearby areas of Catalonia are believed by some to have been used as baptismal fonts in the earlier centuries of the Romanesque period, before pedestal fonts were introduced [NB: this view could, and probably should, be questioned for many of them appear to have been contemporary with the vat-type and pedestal-type fonts of the area].
