Font Notes:
Noted in Nieto Taberné (1994). Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla-La Mancha: Cuenca (2009) as a Romanesque font of the 13th century; the cauldron-shaped basin is decorated with a [rope?] moulding at the upper rim, and a pattern of broad ribs all around the sides and underbowl; the upper end of each rib is carved with either a potent Maltese cross or a six-petal floral motif; raised on a squat round moulded base. The Enciclopedia… (ibid.) notes the presence of the floral and cross motifs also on the fonts at Alconchel de la Estrella, Arcas and Villanueva de los Escuderos. This source mentions Nieto Taberné’s comparison to the fonts at Bonilla, Hontecillas and Pajaroncillo, probably in reference to the ribbed pattern and upper rim moulding.
