Described and illustrated in Nieto Taberné (1994) and (2001) as a Romanesque font practically identical to the one at nearby Laguna del Marquesado; both have the same hemispherical basin (these rest directly on the ground) ornamented with a band of geometric motif resembling stars or flowers or, at a strech, even multi-armed crosses; the underbowl is ornamented with a blind arcade, the arches looking very Mozarabic. The same source [cf supra] informs that these fonts have been some times dated to the 11th century, though he believes it to be too early a date. [cf. Index entry for the fonts at Laguna del Marquesado and La Almarcha, both locations not very far from Valdemeca. Noted and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla-La Mancha: Guadalajara (2009), which quotes a dating as early as the 11th century, suggests the fonts at Las Inviernas, La Miñosa and El Picazo, in Guadalajara province, as cognates.
