Church Address: Plaza de la Catedral, 1, 22700 Jaca, Huesca, Spain -- Tel.: +34 974 35 63 78
Site Location: Huesca, Aragón, Spain, Europe
Directions to Site: The Museo Diocesano is housed in the former cloister of the Catedral de Jaca and has its entrance from the N nave of the cathedral.
Ecclesiastic Region: Diócesis de Jaca
Historical Region: Jacetania
Font Notes:
The cube-shaped basin is raised on a smaller rectangular block, but it is most likely that this base was not part of the font at all and is being used for display purposes only; the basin is very regular with all side and lower corners chamfered and ornamented with half-ball motif, two per side; one of the sides has also a large carving with the initials of Christ [NB: the Museum director/curator was not forthcoming with information regarding the origin of the fonts housed in it. Our request for information in the offices of the bishopry was equally unsuccessful, although the general understanding appears to be that all the fonts/stoups in the Museo Diocesano de Jaca [cf. another two entries in the Index] came originally from abandoned villages of the province of Huesca.]
