A most interesting object which, although it might have been excluded fom this Index because of its late date, ca. 1710, we think well deserves to be noted and included here on account of its unusual double liturgical function. There is a beautiful marble altar in the back of the main nave of the cathedral, towards the centre of the nave. The altar has a trap cover in the centre, which, when raised on its back hinges, reveals the oval basin of a hidden baptismal font. The main altar piece of the cathedral uses the same marble as the font and has been dated to 1710, with different colours of marble pieced together to create the ornamenting patterns. One other such object, an altar-font of the 16th century, exists in Donzy, in France, as noted in Le Patrimoine des communes de Nièvre (1999, v. 1, p. 403) [cf. Index entry for Donzy]. [cf. Index entry for Zamora No. 9 for a font of the 15th century in this cathedral church].
