Noted in Gudiol (2008) from his 1907 visit. Noted in Buron (1980) as a Romanesque baptismal font ornamented with figures. The first article in Catalunya romànica (1984- ) shies away from an interpretation of the human-figure-with-stick-and-bird image; the second article cites Sarrate i Forga's 'El arte románico en el Mig-Aran' in which the object is interpreted as a Tau cross, but it continues to offer its own interpretation suggesting that the object on the stick is indeed a bird which, according to Champeaux and Sterckx' (1972), usually an eagle, is a symbol of sovereign power received or exercised from heaven [="del poder rebut o exercit des del cel"]; of the other human figure bearing tools, it does not offer an explanation [="no hem pogut escatir el significat"]; of the chrismon, it offers that this representation is an exception on a baptismal font [="la presència d'aquest element aquí constitueix una excepció"] [NB: not an accurate statement since the chrismon is represented in other fonts in nearby France]. This article may have a more interesting suggestion in that the division into the set segments may have its root in that of the earlier sarcophagi. It also possits that the similarity between the ornamentation on this font and that of Gausac makes one think that both works were executed by the same hand or workshop, a local one to judge by the low technical quality of the work [="... a creure que es tractava d'un taller local, de baixa qualitat tècnica"]; it also offers that, despite the patent archaic appearance of the piece, it should be dated to around the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century [="malgrat l'arcaisme [...] creiem que ha d'ésser datada entorn del final del segle XII o el principi del XIII"]. On-site notes: wide cylindrical basin has short vertical sides decorated in four parts: a chrismon, a human figure with carving tools [the artist (?)], an Agnus Dei and, to its left, another figure carrying in his right hand a staff on which is perched a bird, while his right hand holds what looks like a vase or beaker [Herod and the cuckold?]; these are framed inside circles, the circles themselves are shaped into figures, trees and other shapes; the spandrels between the circles have varied motifs: a human head, floral.... A fine work. The iron staples of the original cover are still in place in the upper rim. The base, in contrast, is a totally plain cylindrical shaft. Described and illustrated in Amiell (2007).
