Described in Buron (1980: 27) as an interesting Romanesque baptismal font with diverse ornamental motifs carved on the stone surfaces. Described and illustrated in Catalunya romànica (1984- , vol. XVI: 171-172), where it is reported that popular belief has this font arriving in Castellars at the time of the mid-19th century secularization of church land under Mendizábal; the font is reported half-built into the wall, which has hidden some of the ornamental motifs on its sides; the basin is between cylindrical and hemispherical and does not have any indication of ever having had any base support;.the basin sides are decorated with an arcade of round arches containing the following motifs [L-->R]: 1)Latin cross (only half of it visible); 2) shell ["petxina"]; 3)Latin cross; 4)concentric circles; 5)Latin Cross. Recent information [received March 2003] confirms that the font now at the church of St. Martin in Castellars was originally from the monastery at Lavaix, now under the waters of a dam.
