Gómez Moreno dates the basin to the 15th century and the base to the 16th. The hexagonal basin, made of alabaster, has scenes of Christ's baptism, the Prophets with labels, and one of the Confession. He further adds that it appears to be a German work (Gomez-Moreno, 1983, p. 99). The cylindrical base has stucco carvings/mouldings, the front side shows a ram's head at the top from whose horns hang a pair of large garlands; under the ram's head two winged dragons with necks hooked to each other's and tail-ends tied; it bears the arms of bishop Fr. Francisco Ruiz (Gomez-Moreno, 1983, p.103). [On-site notes: we were not permitted to photograph or take accurate measurements of the baptismal font.]
