Church Notes: These three Visigothic churches are clustered together in the Roman part of town and are well worth a visit.
One of three churches located in the Roman-Visigothic complex of Egara, in the present city of Tarrasa (Sant Miquel is called "la segona catedral d'Egara" by Puig i Cadafalch) (Puig i Cadafalch, 1949, v.1, no page number given). "Monumento visigodo, elevado entre los años 450 y 720 ... de planta cuadrada, con un solo ábside, poligonal al exterior y de arco ultrasemicircular al interior ... El crucero se forma con ocho columnas sobre las que cargan ocho arcos de medio punto muy peraltados y sobre ellos una cúpula octogonal ...] (Lamperez y Romea, 1930, t. 1, p. 192-193; plans, etc., also on p. 193). The font parapet starts with a square plant but the trimmed corners make it octagonal. Delcor (1973) dates the establishment of the episcopal seat to the mid-5th century, therefore the baptistery should be dated no earlier than that. Marti Bonet (2007), on the other hand, states that this supposed baptistery has been proved to be actually a funerary church [="El suposat baptisteri de Sant Miquel s'ha comprovat que és un edifici sepulcral del segle VI"].
