Illustrated in Yzquierdo Perrin (1983): holy-water stoup has bucket-shaped basin with badly worn figures and other ornamentation on the sides; a siren holding up its tail is still visible. The base is also badly worn. Cobreros (1993) puts Santa Maria de Pesqueiras in the nearby province of Pontevedra. Noted as disappeared in Diez Tejon (2008). The Chantada web site -village in the province of Lugo- describes this church as the remains of an old Benedictine monastery and mentions two noteworthy objects: a Madonna and Child and a baptismal font ["pila bautismal", not a stoup, ornamented with a siren ["con una estraña figura de una sirena"]. It also mentions the church at Muradelle with another such font. Another local web site www.interbook.net] identifies the siren motif as well as a cockerel near it. One of the angles of the basin appears to be a figure holding a staff in its left hand. The basin is rather irregular quadrangular-to-round; the upper and lower rims of the basin are decorated with a thick roll moulding; the base has a round narrower upper volume and a quadrangular lower volume, although the angles are almost entirely rounded. On-site notes: we visited the site of Santa Maria de Pesqueiras on May 30, 2005 and we were refused entry; the nearest neighbour and keyholder, don Manuel, from "O Outeiro', the farm just above the church, was obviously not intended as an aid to visitors; don Manuel informed us that the font or stoup was no longer in the church and that it had been stolen four or five years ago -- we asked it the theft had been reported to the authorities and he answered that it had -- we have not been able to get confirmation of the theft or the report from any other source so far]. An article in 'La Voz de Galicia' [http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/hemeroteca/2005/09/19/4083520.shtml] dated 19 September 2005 mentions a 12th-century stoup and font in the church.
