Font Notes:
The Inventario Artístico de Palencia (1977- ) has it as a Gothic font of the 15th century, but the description in Bilbao (1996) and the dating in García Guinea (1998), late 12th or early 13th century, give credence to its Romanesque pedigree: two scenes appear on the sides of the basin: the first shows two lions in a belicose embrace; in the second scene a bearded warrior armed with a short sword or dagger, protected with a large shield and a helmet, has the winning hand in his fight with a coiled-tail dragon, both framed at the top by irregular round arches; the rim has rope motif ornamentation and, on the upper surface, little florettes spaced all around between the outer rope moulding and the inner moulding; on the same surface are traces of the metal staples of the old cover. Noted in Martín Jiménez (2008) with date in the late 12th century. Listed and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/palencia_ARENILLAS_DE_NUÑO_PÉREZ.pdf] [accessed 19 February 2025]
