Described in Bilbao (1996: 299 et al.) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; at this time the font was reported as being at the west end, beneath the west gallery [="sotocoro"]. The Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) indicates similarities between the fonts at Bañuelos del Rudrón, Grijalba, Villegas, Villamayor de Treviño, La Piedra, Villasandino, Rebolledo de Traspeña y Los Valcárceres. Stone baptismal font consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin raised on a round pedestal base; the vasin is decorated with concave ribbed pattern on the inside and convex ribbing on the outside; the outer ribs have a number of additional motifs superimposed on them: an interlaced 3-strand braid, all around, floating x-shaped twists and a band of what looks like row of hot-cross buns but are probably meant to be ball flowers, and practically on the underbowl complex foliage arrengements; the base, like those of this group of fonts [cf. supra] contains a fight involving a bearded knight armed with a sword, a lion and a large snake; the lion bites the head of the snake, while the swordsman attacks the thick body with his weapon. No cover present.
