Cognate Fonts: Same workshop as the other font in this village, but different artist (?)
Listed in Pérez Carmona (1974: 124). Described in Bilbao (1996: 298 et al.) as a Romanesque baptismal font consisting of a large plain basin mounted on a cylindrical base, the latter a lion devouring/attacking a serpent, though very little remains visible now; Bilbao (ibid.: 112) suggests that, although the two fonts in this village are of different artistic level, they are the work of the same workshop, but not of the same artist [cf. entry for Villasandino No. 2 for the font at the church of La Natividad in the same village, also with a similarly decorated base]. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed November 2022] notes: "La pila es gótica, de copa lisa y base cónica con molduras y serpiente". [NB: there is a second stone font in this church [cf. ImagesArea], consisting of a round gasin raised on a pedestal base and quadrangular lower base; it appears a crude work, plain but for a rough moulding at the upper rim -- it may have been brought from another church but we have no information on its provenance, and we have made no separate entry for it in BSI for now].
